I am done with finals as of yesterday. I have almost completely switched out of my apartment--I'm going to sleep here tonight and move the rest of my stuff early tomorrow morning before I go to the airport.
I'm really bored...I've been so busy that now that I don't have anything to do hardly, I don't know what to do with myself! Well, come tomorrow, I'll be on a plane back to Houston for five days. I should have some fun there. And then I'll get separation anxiety in the hours before I get on a plane to come back to Utah because I love being at home so much. I love my family.

I will survive!
It's finals time, whoopee. I'm tired, slightly grumpy, and stressed. I've gotten three finals down, and two more to go. The finals I've got done are Orchestra, Music 101, and ELANG 327 (Phonology and Phonetics). Maybe orchestra doesn't count because my "final" was my concert, which was almost a month ago. I took my Music 101 exam yesterday and I was pleased with the results. ELANG was...meh. I love English Language, it's just that I didn't care much for this class. I just didn't find it that interesting.
The finals I have left: Editing and LDS Temples. For my editing class, I have to turn in a portfolio, which I am somewhat close to being done with. I'm hoping to finish it today and then turn it in to my professor's office on Monday. My Temples final is scheduled for Tuesday morning, and I'm not worried about that one. Then it's getting my stuffed moved into the new apartment right across the hall from my current one, getting ready for cleaning checks, and then I go home on Wednesday for a few days before spring term starts. That's one of the few things that's keeping me from ripping my hair out right now.
So, this week has been interesting. A bunch of girls I know got engaged this week. I received two wedding announcements. I went to my cousin's bridal shower. And I went to the mall with a girl in my ward so she could show her roommate and me some engagement rings she likes, since she and her boyfriend are talking about getting married.
And, how long has it been since my last date? Geez. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for these girls, but wow, it's hard not to feel a little bit left behind.

the arts
My friend Kristi's post inspired me to write this.
I was brought up by musician parents. My dad is an amateur violinist and my mom is a professional pianist and organist. She also sings with the Houston Symphony Chorus. One of my first memories is of my dad putting his violin in my arms and guiding my hands as "we" played "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". I began violin lessons just before I turned eleven and I still play, though I should practice a lot more than I do.
I love music, especially classical. Most of my favorite music artists have some connection to classical music: Josh Groban, Enya, Elton John, Billy Joel, The Beatles, etc.
My favorite classical composers are many, but I'll name a few: Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Puccini, Samuel Barber, Brahms, etc.
Like Kristi, I often wish I had been alive when these composers were putting out music. I know that many of them were not appreciated during their lifetime. I think the arts deserve much more appreciation than they get.
I frequently long for the old days. The days when a person who speaks articulately was not seen as a freak of nature. The days when movies had an actual plot and had actors who were not only good-looking but also talented, not the special effects that try to make up for the lack of plot. I admit, the special effects are impressive, but sometimes are just too much.
The closest you usually get to finding someone who does like classical music is when they like movie music. I like movie music--it's great. But who do you think those composers were inspired by? After taking a Music 101 class this semester, I have noticed similarities between John Williams pieces and say, Wagner. I find it intriguing, actually.
I might be seen as old-fashioned, but a Devotional speaker once said that a person who enjoys the refined things in life (good music, good art, etc.) is one who is very close to our Heavenly parents. I'll have to find that talk again.

as the semester ends...
I can still hardly believe that the semester is almost over! It always amazes me how fast winter semester goes--I guess it's partly because we only have two holidays and BYU does not have spring break.
But my schooling is not ending when the semester does. I am staying up here for spring/summer. I need to if I want to graduate in a timely manner; changing my major and having an internship for this entire school year has delayed graduation a little bit. I love my major and I have loved my internship, so it's all worth it. I'm supposed to graduate in August 2009--not the April 2009 that I wanted, but that's fine. My friends say that graduating on time is overrated. Well, I don't want to stay in Utah for longer than I have to. I'm sick of snow.
I have learned so much this school year. This year was probably the hardest for me on many levels. The lessons I've learned have made it all worth it. But I hope never to be in those particular situations ever again :)
I am also grateful. I am grateful for the lessons I've learned. I am grateful for friends who have helped. I am grateful for my family--I have a lot of extended family close by this year, and they have helped me through so much. Above all, I am grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who gave me the strength to pass through my trials. It was hard to put my trust in him, but I am glad I have.
On another note, I get to see my mom and brother Paul tomorrow night. I'm buying a laptop for him and they'll come by to pick it up.

I have a place to live next fall!
Almost two weeks ago, I signed a contract with Park Plaza for fall/winter of next year. Today, I paid the deposit and will officially be living there next fall! Now I need to tell Glenwood that I'm not staying on for fall/winter--I renewed my contract so I would have a safety net. I've enjoyed living in Glenwood for as long as I have and will be living there this summer, but after that, I feel like it's time to move on. I was planning on moving to Riviera this spring, but they were being really stupid about the move-in date and since I hadn't paid the deposit, I told them that I wouldn't live there after all.
Park Plaza is really close to campus, which is nice because I don't own a car. The rent is very reasonable too! $255 (with utilities) for a four-person apartment. I like knowing that I'll only have three other roommates to deal with. I know that there is only one bathroom for four girls, but after this year, I think I can live with just about anything. At least it's not six girls to one bathroom. Yikes! Park Plaza also has a reputation for being social and down-to-earth, which I really like.

Look below
I did one of those myheritage.com things and as it turns out, I look like both of my parents equally! And everyone says I look like my mother, ha ha!
